A standards-based approach to infrastructure management removes the barriers IT organizations often encounter because of proprietary systems and lack of manageability services based on open standards. Using the tools provided in the WS-Man specification an organization can:

• Create a standardized manageability interface to all manageable IT assets
• Discover IT assets as they joined the network
• Extract configurable parameters and other metadata from each asset
• Force behaviors of assets in accordance with IT policies
• Detect and respond to events in a manner that supports established business rules and processes
